Quick Start

This guide helps you install VoxAction, configure a transcription service, and dictate your first text in a Windows app.

1. Install VoxAction

Download VoxAction from Nurgo Software:

Use the MSI installer for the standard Windows installation. Use the portable ZIP if you want VoxAction to keep its settings next to the executable.

2. Open Settings

After VoxAction starts, open the settings window:

  1. Right-click the VoxAction icon in the Windows system tray.
  2. Click Settings....

You can also double-click the tray icon. If the tray icon is hidden in settings, open VoxAction Settings from the Start menu.

3. Choose a Transcription Service

Open Transcription and choose a service:

  • Nurgo AI (smart transcription & editing): recommended for most users. Log in or sign up, then subscribe or manage your subscription from the same page.
  • Whisper (basic transcription only): enter your Whisper-compatible API endpoint, API key, and model name. The default endpoint is https://api.openai.com/v1/  and the default model is whisper-1 .

Voice translation and AI assisted editing are available only with a Nurgo AI subscription.

4. Select Your Microphone

In Transcription > Audio recording device, choose:

  • System default input device, or
  • a specific microphone from the list.

Watch the input level gauge while speaking. If the gauge moves, VoxAction can hear the selected device.

5. Choose Your Input Language

In Transcription > Input language, choose the language you speak.

Automatic detection works for many cases, but selecting a specific language can improve short dictations, names, accents, and specialized vocabulary.

6. Check Your Hotkeys

Open Hotkeys.

Default hotkeys are:

Workflow Default hotkey
Dictation Alt+1
Translation Alt+2
AI assisted editing Alt+3

You can change these hotkeys if another application already uses them. Push-to-talk is enabled by default.

7. Dictate Your First Text

  1. Open an app with a text field, such as Notepad, Word, Outlook, a browser, or a chat app.
  2. Click where you want the text to appear.
  3. Press the dictation hotkey.
  4. Speak.
  5. Press the dictation hotkey again, or release it if you are holding it in push-to-talk mode.

VoxAction transcribes the recording and inserts the text at the caret.

If Nothing Happens

Check these common causes:

  • VoxAction is turned Off in the tray menu.
  • The selected AI service is not configured.
  • The microphone is unavailable or muted.
  • Another app already uses the same hotkey.
  • The target app blocks paste or clipboard insertion.
