Push-to-Talk Dictation
Push-to-talk lets you hold a hotkey while speaking and stop recording when you release it. It is useful when you want fast, deliberate voice input without leaving the microphone open.
Enable Push-to-Talk
- Open Settings.
- Go to Hotkeys.
- Turn on Allow push-to-talk.
- Click Apply or OK.
Push-to-talk is enabled by default.
How It Works
When push-to-talk is enabled, you can use a VoxAction hotkey in two ways:
- Toggle mode: press the hotkey once to start recording, then press it again to stop.
- Hold mode: press and hold the hotkey, speak, then release the hotkey to stop recording.
This applies to dictation and to the Nurgo AI workflows when they are available.
Very short presses are ignored as push-to-talk stops. Hold the hotkey long enough for VoxAction to record your speech before releasing it.
Why Use Push-to-Talk
Push-to-talk is useful for:
- privacy-conscious dictation,
- shared offices,
- meetings,
- short messages,
- quick notes,
- avoiding accidental recordings.
VoxAction is not designed as an always-listening voice assistant. Recording starts from a hotkey action.
Optional Audio Muting
If speakers, calls, or videos are being picked up by your microphone, enable:
Settings > Transcription > Mute audio during recording
When enabled, VoxAction temporarily mutes system audio during recording and restores the previous mute state afterward.
