Installing and Updating VoxAction
VoxAction is available for Windows as an MSI installer and as a portable ZIP archive. Both editions provide the same core dictation features, but they store settings in different locations.
System Requirements
VoxAction needs:
- Windows 10 or later.
- A working microphone or audio input device.
- Internet access for Nurgo AI or your configured Whisper-compatible speech-to-text service.
- Permission to use global Windows hotkeys.
- A target application that accepts typed or pasted text.
MSI Installer
Download the MSI installer:
https://www.nurgo-software.com/download/VoxAction.msi
The MSI installer is recommended for most users. It installs VoxAction under Program Files, creates Start Menu shortcuts, and can start VoxAction automatically after installation.
The installed version stores user settings and data in:
text %APPDATA%\VoxAction\
Common files include:
VoxAction.conf: settings such as hotkeys, AI service, API endpoint, model, language, dictionary, and microphone.VoxAction.data: account, update, and instance data.logs\: diagnostic log files when logging is enabled.
Portable ZIP
Download the portable version:
https://www.nurgo-software.com/download/VoxAction.zip
The portable version keeps its configuration next to the executable. This is useful when you want a self-contained folder that can be moved or backed up as a unit.
Do not extract the portable ZIP into a protected system folder unless you understand the Windows permission implications. Choose a folder where your Windows user account can write files.
Start with Windows
To start VoxAction automatically when you sign in:
- Open Settings.
- Go to General.
- Enable Start with Windows.
- Click Apply or OK.
This creates a per-user startup entry for VoxAction.
Automatic Updates
VoxAction can periodically check for updates:
Settings > General > Automatically check for updates
You can also right-click the tray icon and choose Check for updates. Installed builds update with the MSI package. Portable builds update with the ZIP package.
Uninstall or Move VoxAction
For the MSI version, use Windows Installed apps or Apps & features to uninstall VoxAction.
For the portable version, exit VoxAction from the tray menu and delete the extracted folder. If you want to keep your settings, back up the portable folder first.
